Manchester United have released an official statement regarding the appointment of their new captain. The announcement comes shortly after United manager Eric ten Bosch removed the captain’s armband from Harry Maguire.

Maguire announced on social media that he had hung up his captain’s armband shortly after a meeting with Tenakh on Saturday (ET), writing that he was very disappointed with Tenakh’s decision. After Maguire’s social media post went viral, the club immediately issued a statement saying: “Everyone at United is deeply grateful for the commitment Maguire has shown as captain over the past three and a half years,” and that “the manager will speak to the players and announce a new captain in due course. Bruno Fernandes, who has worn the captain’s armband on several occasions in Maguire’s absence, is expected to be the new captain.

Maguire took to social media on Saturday to say, “After discussions with the coach today, he informed me that he will be changing the captaincy. He explained the reasons to me and whilst I am personally very disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I pull on the United shirt,” Maguire said on social media on Saturday. “I would like to thank the United fans for their tremendous support while I have worn the captain’s armband,” he added.

“It has been a great honor to lead United from the day I took over the captaincy three and a half years ago. It has been one of the proudest moments of my career so far. I consider it one of the greatest honors in club football. “I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for entrusting me with the captaincy and I wish whoever takes over the captaincy now every success, 토토사이트 and I will support them wholeheartedly.”

Maguire lost his place in the team under Tenakh last season as he favored a combination of Rafael Varane and Lysandro Martinez at center back, and after starting just eight league games, he lost the captain’s armband for the new season.British newspapers such as the Daily Mail claimed United were willing to make a £40 million offer for Maguire, suggesting a move to West Ham could be on the cards after the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal boosted their cash reserves.
