Mbappe was already at odds with PSG.
In June, European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on his channel that “Mbappe has informed the club that he does not intend to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. This means that Mbappe’s contract expires in June 2024. PSG will not let Mbappe go without a transfer fee. Mbappe could be sold unless he signs a new contract.”
Faced with the prospect of losing Mbappe without a transfer fee, PSG accepted a transfer offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, but Mbappe refused to meet with Al-Hilal officials when they traveled to Paris. PSG were furious that they had created an opportunity for the player to move but he refused.
As a result, PSG excluded Mbappe from their preseason Asia tour. He was also removed from the first-team training roster.
Notably, Mbappe was also left off the roster for the 2023-2024 Ligue 1 season opener against Lorient at home on December 12.

After his stellar performances, Mbappe moved to PSG on loan for the 2017-2018 season and completed his move to PSG for the 2018-2019 season for a reported €180 million ($262.1 million).
