James Maddison, 26, has joined Tottenham Hotspur.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of James Maddison, who has agreed a new contract until June 2028,” Tottenham officially announced on the club’s website on Sept. 29.
According to multiple sources, including European transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee is said to be £40 million (approximately KRW 665 million).
The Athletic’s Jat Pickbrook broke the story of Maddison’s move to Tottenham, which has been eight years in the making. But Norwich City were more aggressive in their pursuit. In the 2017-18 season, he led Norwich’s offense in the English Championship (second division), producing 14 goals and eight assists in 44 games. This earned him a move to Leicester City, where he joined for a fee of €25 million.
Maddison thrived at Leicester, reaching career highs in the 2021-22 season. He scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 35 English Premier League (EPL) games, further increasing his value. The 2022-23 season was no different. His club, Leicester, was relegated after an unrelenting run of bad luck, but Madsen shone, producing 10 goals and nine assists in 30 games. In total, he scored 55 goals and 41 assists in 203 official games for Leicester, winning the English FA Cup and FA Community Shield.
