Celtic manager Enzhi Postecoglou, 58, who is the favorite to take over at Tottenham, has been to South Korea before.

Postecoglou is set to leave Celtic at the end of the 2022-23 season to take charge of Tottenham in the English Premier League (EPL). “Tottenham will hold talks with Postecoglou in the coming days,” the BBC reported on Friday.

Postecoglou has won three trophies with Celtic this season. He won the league, League Cup, and FA Cup in Scotland. Oh Hyun-kyu, who joined Celtic last winter from the K League’s Suwon Samsung, also helped the Hoops win all three trophies.

Postecoglou, a Greek national, is no stranger to East Asia. Postecoglou led Yokohama F.Marinos in the Japanese J-League from 2018 to 2021. They won the J1 League title in 2019 and qualified for the 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL).

Postecoglu led Yokohama to the ACL in the 2020 season. They were drawn against Jeonbuk Hyundai in the first round of the group stage. The match between Yokohama and Jeonbuk in Jeonju ended in a 2-1 victory for Yokohama. Yokohama scored two goals in the first half before conceding a late goal to Cho Kyu-sung.

Yokohama outshot Jeonbuk 8-2 on the day. Jeonbuk goalkeeper Song Bum-geun made several super saves to keep Yokohama’s shots at bay. 토토사이트

At the official press conference after the game against Jeonbuk, Postecoglou said. “If it wasn’t for the Jeonbuk goalkeeper (Song Bum-geun), we would have won 5-0. We won 2-1, but it was a very disappointing result.”

Postecoglou’s comments were not a one-off. After leaving Yokohama to take over at Celtic in 2021, he also pushed to sign Song Bum-geun. “Celtic could make a move for Song to give Joe Hart competition,” the Scottish media reported in December 2021.

Having spent time in East Asia watching Japanese and Korean soccer, Postecoglou could make some unexpected signings when he takes over at Tottenham. It remains to be seen if Son Heung-min (Tottenham) will be the first Asian player to play for Spurs.
