Europe’s reigning champions Manchester City are on the hunt for a defender. Croatian international defender Josko Gvardiol, 21, RB Leipzig.
After winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League triple this season, City are in the market for Gvardiol this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an expert on European soccer, City have identified Gbadiol as their top target this summer, along with Mateo Kovacic (29, Chelsea). Negotiations have already begun and the player is reportedly open to a move.
Gvardiol made his debut for the A-team in 2019 at the age of 17. He moved to Leipzig in 2021, where he began to blossom. He also made seven appearances at last year’s World Cup in Qatar. Given his prominence on the world stage, many teams are interested in him.
He”s still only 21 years old, but he”ll command a huge transfer fee. Romano told CutOffside in the UK: “Leipzig want the highest transfer fee in the history of defenders. I don’t know if it will be enough. A source close to the club said they need more than 100 million euros ($137.4 million) to sign Gbadiol this summer.
So far, the highest transfer fee for a defender is Harry Maguire, 30, who joined Manchester United from Leicester City in August 2019. He cost 87 million euros ($115.5 billion) at the time. 안전놀이터
Romano says Leipzig could lose a number of players this summer. Christopher Nkunku could leave for Chelsea, and Dominik Sobosler could also leave. It’s important for them (Leipzig) to sell Gvardiol for a big transfer fee. Even if it doesn’t materialize, they are ready to hold on to him for one more season and then sell him for a record fee in 2024.
Most importantly, City will make it happen. Pep Guardiola has hinted at a big deal, saying he likes the player.
