Belgian professional soccer player Hong Hyun-seok (24-KAA Gent) has expressed his excitement about joining the national team for the first time.

“First of all, I’m very happy, and I’m excited and nervous to be able to train and play with the players I’ve seen on TV,” he said ahead of the team’s first training session at Gudeok Stadium in Busan on Wednesday afternoon.

South Korea’s national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will play two friendlies in South Korea in June. They will face Peru on June 16 at the Busan Asiad Stadium and El Salvador on June 20 at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.

In total, Klinsmann has called 24 players to Busan for the two A matches. Hong Hyun-seok, who played for the U-23 national team, will make his first appearance with the A team.

The attacking midfielder joined Gent from LASK Linz (Austria) last summer and has been a consistent performer. His overall season stats are 9 goals and 11 assists in 58 appearances. His league record is 5 goals and 6 assists in 31 games. He’s already established himself as a regular midfielder in the team. Now he needs to impress the new coach, Klinsmann. 스포츠토토

As this was his first interview with the national team, there was a lot of nervousness on his face. “I want to score a debut goal in my debut, or just make a kill pass and get an assist,” he said of his debut goal. As he spoke, Hong Hyun-seok showed a shy smile that made him feel awkward.

As for his strengths, Hong Hyun-seok said they are his activity, kill passes, and defense. “When I play this time, I will play hard so that I can be remembered as a player who plays really hard,” he said.
