The Dallas Mavericks are not expected to capture the old big man.

According to The Athletic’s Tim Kato, Dallas’ Christian Wood (forward, 206cm, 97kg) will be leaving the team.

The breakup between Dallas and Wood was somewhat expected. Dallas got him last offseason. However, he did not sign a contract extension with him as his contract expired after the season. He was also rumored to be traded ahead of the trade deadline. But he wasn’t traded.

Dallas tried to turn things around by bringing in Kyrie Irving, but it didn’t work out. Dallas finished the season with a record of 38 wins and 44 losses. Even before the middle of the season, they were in the middle of the Western Conference, but they finished the season in 11th place. They didn’t even make it to the play-in tournament, let alone advance to the playoffs.

He has appeared in 67 games this season. He mainly came off the bench, and started 17 of them. He recorded 16.6 points (.515 .376 .772), 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 blocks in 25.9 minutes per game. But unlike his consistent start for the Houston Rockets over the past two seasons, this time he has been inconsistent coming off the bench. His scoring average has declined for three consecutive seasons.

He hoped to become a starter. But defense was a problem. Compared to his outstanding offensive ability, his overall defensive ability as well as his understanding was low. The Dallas coaching staff took him off the bench. There must have been quite a bit of disagreement. Although he was intermittently put in as the starting pitcher, he showed limitations. He also didn’t get much time for Wood as he had to compete with other players, including Maxi Kleba.

In the end, Wood plans to choose a transfer rather than staying in Dallas. He didn’t even sign an extended contract with Dallas, and it’s not easy to secure playing time. However, it is questionable how much interest he will receive in the transfer market now that he has chosen to become a free agent. Because the limits of his defense are clear. He could be a starter for an underpowered team, but we’ll have to see if a team looking to make the playoffs will sign him. 안전놀이터

He signed with Houston in the fall of 2020. Houston caught him through a sign & trade. He signed a three-year, $41 million contract. His contract expires at the end of the season, and Houston sent him to Dallas last summer. Dallas sent several players and the 2022 first round, 26th pick (Wendell Moore Jr.).
