It’s never safe to judge a player based on one game, but it appears that Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich hasn’t been a success.
The Frenchman stepped in for Kane in the first round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) season against Brentford at the Wembley Community Stadium in London, England, on Sept. 13 (ET). He played full time but was silent. He fired a right-footed shot on goal in the 18th minute of the second half that was blocked by the opposing keeper. He also wasted a chance in the 44th minute.
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Brentford thanks to back-to-back goals from defenders Christian Romero and Emerson Royal. Football England gave him a rating of 5, his lowest ever.
“I think he worked hard, but we didn’t utilize him enough,” said Postecoglou. “He could have created more chances. I think he could have created more chances. “I have a lot of time for him, he is a key player and I will continue to support him. He is a striker, he has a lot of great attributes and he is always eager to work for the team. That’s a good starting point for me.”
Outside, however, the mood is different. Tottenham legend and EPL’s all-time leading goalscorer Teddy Sheringham has taken a shot at him.
“Postecoglou clearly needs to add another striker,” he told the Express on Saturday. He’s not a number nine to replace Kane, he hasn’t scored enough goals and he’s not a goalgetter.”
Sheringham’s alternatives include Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, who is serving a suspension for “illegal betting”. Ferguson, 19, came off the bench in the first round against Luton Town to score the winning goal in Brighton’s 4-1 victory. 토토사이트
Sheringham said: “Tony and Ferguson are the type of strikers Tottenham need to sign. The club hasn’t had a clear-cut number nine in the last few years and it’s shown. Every club in the Premier League is looking for a striker to lead the line. Look at the impact that Elling Holland has had on Man City, he completes the team.”
